A Cool Mom!

It's not often you find a parent that takes an active approach to dealing with teenage drinking. But this mom gets the "Cool Mommy Award" this month.

Mr. D told me that this kid came to school with a police officer escort and he had a little chat with him in his office. See, the night before was his birthday and his friends snuck him out of the house(on a school night) and he went partying. Well, mom caught him sneaking back into the house loaded. So, she called the cops. The police officer breatholized him every hour until he was "legal" and then made sure he made it to school. Hungover or not, he is not ditching school! LOL I LOVE it.

Mr. D asked him, "So what does this mean now?"

His response went something like this: I'm screwed(with his head between his knees). My mom doesn't trust me. I don't have keys to my car now. I have nothing, no mp3, no computer, no t.v., no Playstation, nothing.

"And what about your girlfriend?"

His response again: My girlfriend is going to dump me if she hasn't already found out. It was an older girl that was 21 that bought the beer and crap. I cheated on her too.

"Would you have done that if you hadn't been drinking?"

No way, I don't know what I was thinking.

"Well, it sounds like you've learned some big lessons"

Yeah, I won't be drinking again anytime soon.

"Anytime soon?"

Anytime, ever!

"Okay. Hope you make some better choices today. Get to class."

LOL! Dh said she gets parent of the year in his book! FINALLY a parent that gets it and doesn't try to cover up what their kid did, that follows through on discipline, that involves and asks for help in getting through to their kid and doesn't just bury their head in the sand.

I've been reading your blog for some time now...love it!

Anyway, I used to teach high school in northern New Mexico, where there is a HUGE underage drinking problem. I wish I would have had some parents like this mom.
