Monkey Doodle Broke A Noodle

Maybe Bones should try snowboarding instead, since skiing is proving to be dangerous for him. The diagnosis: Compression Fracture of the distal tibia and fibia. Basically, he broke both bones(above the growth plate, ankle) smacking his boots into the slowdown sign(similar to car accident injuries). Both bones bent out and snapped back into place. The break is through, not a green stick, since they snapped back into place just right he didn't need to be re-set. Yay! No surgery either! He's in a full leg cast well above his knee until the end of January(4 weeks) and will then go into a half cast for another 4 weeks. Elevation and no weight on the leg still for another 7-10 days. Since he can't bend his leg, this made getting in the car awkward. At least he's light, all 63 lbs.(65 with the cast now). I had him scoot in one side, and pulled him out from the other. We haven't figured out seat belting yet since he can't face forward. As I was getting him out I also realized sitting on the potty can be interesting. He didn't think that was funny. His toes are also slightly pointed to keep the achilles tendon from tightening and making the bones want to set awkward, but when he gets the half cast he can be in a more neutral position for walking. He has been doing this funny thing where his toes fan out with the big toe pointing out while he's been in the ace bandage since Tuesday, and the cast is not much different. I keep threatening to tape his toes together though because he does not have pretty toes. At least they're not hairy like his dad's(yet). So, it's day-glow orange(see, those 80's flourescents are back in) for now. He wanted pink because the Dr. said pink casts are chick magnets. Dad and I said no. Sheesh, he's not even a teenager yet.

I am surprised at how big his cast is! I like the orange! Does this mean he gets out of school for ten days? Good luck with the seat belt, bathroom and showering business! You'd better let him sit around and eat bon bon's....He can't afford to lose any weight due to this injury! :)

Pink cast as chick magnet. LOL! My DS wouldn't be caught dead in anything pink. 'Course he's only 6 and doesn't want to have anything to do with girls. I think the orange is a nice manly color. It will warn away other signposts, at least. ;)

He just looks pleased as punch, doesn't he!? LOL! Glad it wasn't the growth plate and glad he doesn't need it to be reset!!!

that cast is a beaut.... my brother was in a cast from hip to toes once (for 3 months), and I'm not really sure how he managed to do anything at all. It was white, but it was still a big time chick magnet!

Wow...looks like he isn't hurting too bad, and no surgery is a relief...hope he heals quickly...

Chick Magnet...that smile looks like it might be a chick magnet without the cast!

Yikes, double yikes! I hope the next 4 weeks go by quick for him! I guess he'll be wearing shorts for a while??

Heehee, no shorts, his leg is actually normal size with the cast now. LOL He's such a skinny little noodle his pants actually fit him better. He used to have those zip pants, where you zip off the calves so they're short, I need to find those, they would be perfect. I was watching him pull up his 501's for his friends to sign and they went up just way too easy. That little leg is going to be even more shrivelled when they take it off.
